Former Los Angeles Angels starter Dan Haren has stayed around Major League Baseball, mainly by interacting with fans. The 13-year veteran played with a number of players, with Mike Trout being among the best.

After joining the team before the 2010 season, Haren would go on to post a 3.52 ERA in 79 games (78 starts). He posted his best stretch of years with the Angels, and became a fan favorite.

Haren didn’t have a chance to play with Shohei Ohtani. But with his ties to the team and status as a long-time big league player, he thought it was worth a shot to ask him and Trout for an autograph.

In a long shot attempt, Haren asked

Haren revealed that he did indeed attach a letter to hammer his request home, citing that he was ‘the last pitcher to have a four hit game’. The joking manner in which he sent the note coincides with the former big league player’s continued fun interactions on social media:

There hasn’t been any word on if this situation will soon be resolved, but Haren’s hail mary attempt to have two of the Angels top players in franchise history return an autographed jersey was a good shot.

Outlook for Angels star Shohei Ohtani’s free agency

With dwindling time in the regular season, the Angels have recently activated Trout from the injured list in his return from a hamate fracture. Sadly, the team remains a decent amount of games out of serious playoff contention.

However, hope isn’t completely lost on the year, but as the Seattle Mariners continue to surge, the Wild Card race could be out of reach even with Trout’s return. With a surefire mega-contract guaranteed to be in Ohtani’s future when it comes to free agency, he’s maintained the utmost level of professionalism.

Ohtani could have his options open to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, or a return to the Angels. Ownership has every reason to want him back, and any team should be eager to bid for his services.
