The Seattle Mariners have a deal in place to add former Miami Marlins hitting coach Brant Brown.
Brown spent the past season with the Marlins and was previously with the Los Angeles Dodgers the three seasons prior to that. During his time with the Dodgers, they were one of the best offensive teams in baseball.
That didn't change as he went to Miami and completely revamped what they did on that side of the baseball.
There were improvements in batting average, strikeouts, and other categories, but the Marlins still scored the fewest amount of runs in the National League and grounded into the most double plays in baseball.
While that could have been a direct result from the lineup that they had, that's also something to keep an eye on with Brown.
During his playing career, he played in 424 games, with more than 150 of those coming with the Chicago Cubs. He impressed in the 1998 season, hitting .291 with 14 home runs.
There have been some success stories with Brown as a coach, including Jake Burger this season. Burger hit .303/.355/.505 during his time in Miami, a near 100-point increase in batting average from when he was with the Chicago White Sox earlier this season.
This season, the Mariners ranked 22nd in batting average, 15th in On-Base Percentage, and 16th in Slugging Percentage.
There was a clear need for an improvement in Seattle and now Brown will have the chance of making an impact.
With Julio Rodriguez, J.P. Crawford, and the other bats that the Mariners add in the offseason, this team has a chance to be much better on the offensive side of the baseball next season and is a threat for the playoffs.
