The Philadelphia Phillies have really been the only team to make a major splash so far this offseason with a free agent signing.

Things are expected to start heating up soon as the Winter Meetings begin on Dec. 3. More free agent deals and trade discussions should get done as the baseball world gathers in one place.

But while it's been relatively quiet on the player front so far, that hasn't stopped MLB teams from restructuring their front offices and managerial roles.

Their division rival Miami Marlins are no exception.

They parted ways with their general manager Kim Ng earlier this offseason, who had been in that role for three years, after not seeing eye to eye with ownership about how the department would be structured.

The Marlins went out and hired Peter Bendix to be their president of baseball operations, convincing him to leave the Tampa Bay Rays after 15 seasons there.

Like any new executive, Bendix started to find some people he wanted to be in his front office.

According Craig Mish of Miami Herald Sports, they have hired former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler to the assistant general manager role.

"Kapler, has been said to be looking for a new challenge in an MLB front office. He was in the running for the Red Sox Head of Baseball Operations job. While it is not yet official, Kapler and the Marlins have an agreement in place, per sources," he added on social media.

The former Philadelphia skipper has front office experience.

Prior to taking over the Phillies from 2018-19, he served as the Los Angeles Dodgers' director of player development starting in November of 2014.

Kapler will bring a wide range of experience to this role as a former big league player, manager and having previously held a front office role prior to this one.
