The San Diego Padres will look to redeem themselves in this pivotal 2024 season.

They have a new manager, Mike Shildt, at the helm, and although their star power has dimmed since last season, others are poised to step up. One they'll look at for continued growth is their newly minted shortstop, Ha-Seong Kim.

Kim has been a revelation for the Friars, growing every season he's been in the league. The 28-year-old infielder will enter his fourth season in Major League Baseball, and he thanks the fans for their support in his continued success.

In the trailer for episode three of San Diego to Seoul, Kim credited the Padres' fanbase for contributing to his growth on the field.

"I sincerely thank all the (San Diego) fans. My first season in the major league was very disappointing, but every time I stepped up to the plate, fans continued to chant my name, regardless, and all these moments have contributed to my continuing growth. I definitely think it's all the support and cheers from the fans that have shaped me to be what you see today."

Kim has improved every single season since entering the majors. In 2021, he slashed .202/.270/.352 with a .622 OPS; those numbers have only increased. In his third year, he slashed .260/.351/.398 with a .749 OPS and established himself as one of the best defenders in baseball.

After winning a Gold Glove award last y ear, the Padres shifted Kim to shortstop and moved Xander Bogaerts to second base.

Since signing a four-year, $28 million contract prior to the 2021 season, Kim has grown as a hitter and defender. He's set to play a huge role with the Friars, who will look to him for big hits and big defensive plays at shortstop.

The Padres begin their 2024 regular season in South Korea, Kim's homeland, where they will play two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers March 20-21.
