Injured Brewers SP Brandon Woodruff to make first Triple-A rehab start on Saturday

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff will take another big step toward returning from injury this week.

On Thursday, manager Craig Counsell announced that Woodruff would make his first rehab start on Saturday for Milwaukee's Triple-A affiliate in Nashville.

Woodruff, 29, hasn't pitched for the Brewers since May 27 and was placed on the IL on May 30 (retroactive to May 28) with a right ankle sprain. During rehab for his ankle injury, Woodruff was diagnosed with Raynaud's Syndrome, which limits blood flow and creates numbness in fingers.

"In terms of the way I felt today, I think it's just going to keep getting better," Woodruff told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last week. "Guys have dealt with this before. Somebody on our team has dealt with it before. I've talked with them a lot about it. They dealt with it a few years ago and for them, it took a couple weeks and then it was gone."

Woodruff has made nine starts this season, compiling a record of 5-3 with a 4.74 ERA in 43.2 innings.

He made his second All-Star appearance in 2021, finishing 9-10 with a 2.56 ERA in 179.1 innings pitched.
