It's Dinger Tuesday, weather or not
Tuesday means homers in baseball, but a warning on the weather today. It appears a large bulk of games are currently at risk of either a delay or postponement, which can impact the level of analysis we can truthfully glean. Starters may be scratched, which throws away batter vs. pitcher stats and history, and more pinch-hitters may enter the fray if delays cause players' routines to change.
A few games look primed for an increase in homers according to the stats (DET-CLE, MIL-CHC, NYM-NYY) but with potential delays coming, we'd recommend staying off. That leaves one clear game of interest for our home run bets today.
Ding: Time to serve up some homer bets
Boston @ Colorado, 8:40 p.m. ET
According to BallparkPal, this Red Sox-Rockies game has a projected 29% boost coming to homers, and a 30% boost to extra-base hits. That should help us hit on some long-ball wagers, and we'll focus on a few that stand out.
Tyler O'Neill (+300 FanDuel)
Boston's O'Neill is rolling at the moment from the plate, piling up 3+ total bases in three of his last four games. That includes a pair of home runs over the past few days.
Clearly, the Red Sox left fielder has found a groove, and we'd like to follow it. That urge grows even moreso when we see that in just two plate appearances against today's starter Ty Blach, O'Neill has a homer.
Load up some O'Neill today.
Ezequiel Tovar (+560 FanDuel)
Tovar is on fire for Colorado. He has 3+ total bases in six straight games and four home runs in his last four. Uh, yeah, we can get behind that on a night that looks poised for some long balls.
Tovar hits righties far better, and Red Sox starter Cooper Criswell has struggled more when facing right-handed batters.
In the news ...
Olympics start Friday — Start gearing up for plenty of Olympics games, and while we'll try and surface some bets as we find them, it's also just a great time to sit back and enjoy some high-quality sports. In the USA basketball world, a pair of news items lead the way this morning. First, LeBron James has been voted to be the country's flag-bearer, the first time a men's basketball player has ever had that honor for the United States. Secondly, it doesn't sound as if Kevin Durant will be ready to play their Olympics opener against Nikola Jokic and Serbia, but TBD if he remains on the roster or gets replaced.
NFL teams reporting to training camp this week — We're inching oh so closer to NFL season, as more teams are reporting to training camp this week. If you're like us, we've already been deep in thought on NFL futures and bets we can start making. Action Network's Ricky Henne broke down win total bets for all 32 teams, if you're into that sort of thing. That, plus we're churning through every single team on an individual basis to find a pair of futures on each, all of which you can find on the Sports Betting hub. It'll be back before we know it!
Not too early to get some 3M Open picks in — We're a week off from Olympics golf beginning, which means we have one last PGA Tour event starting Thursday before we see some of the best in the world compete for gold. YB's own Jack Dougherty is punctual as always with his latest golf picks, highlighting three outright picks for this weekend. Personally, we're loving his read on Neal Shipley at 80-1. Neal's the young golfer who has had some strong performances at majors this season. Count us in there, but read his full preview for more picks and analysis.
