Former Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Jace Peterson. Michael McLoone-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier in December, former Brewers utility man Jace Peterson signed with the Oakland Athletics.

The deal was somewhat surprising in the fact that the A’s offered him a two year $9.5M contract. This turned out to be a deal that he could not refuse. Later, he did reveal that he had a contract offer on the table from the Brewers.

Peterson spoke with Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel following the signing.

The ultimate conclusion from his words was that a second year was a big deciding factor for him. He also revealed that the Brewers offer was for just one year.

Here is what Peterson had to say about his contract offer from the Brewers.

It is unclear exactly when the Brewers spoke with Peterson and offered him a one year contract.

Regardless, the Brewers acquired Abraham Toro as a part of the trade that sent Kolten Wong to the Mariners.

Like Peterson, Toro can also play multiple infield positions. In 2022 he made 55 appearances at second base and 31 at third base.

It seems likely that Toro may slide into a similar role that Peterson previously had over the past few seasons.
