Jacob deGrom was not happy with umpire Andy Fletcher after the home plate official missed a few calls on Saturday.

DeGrom pitched five-plus innings and allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out 10 to get the win in Texas’ 10-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Mich. DeGrom came out to start the bottom of the sixth inning. He issued a leadoff walk to Gleyber Torres and was removed from the game. DeGrom’s 2-0 pitch was on the inside corner but called a ball to make it 3-0. Then his 3-2 pitch touched the bottom of the strike zone but was called a ball.

DeGrom was ticked off and let Fletcher know it.

It’s hard to blame deGrom for being upset when he walked a batter and two of the four pitches that were called balls fell within the strike zone.

The two-time Cy Young Award winner deGrom is finally getting a chance to contribute to the Rangers. He signed a 5-year, $185 million deal with Texas in 2023 and pitched just 30.1 innings that season. He pitched 10.2 innings last season. In 2025, deGrom has pitched 43 innings and is 3-1 with a 2.72 ERA. He has little tolerance for bad calls like those he experienced on Saturday.
