Joe Girardi, Jean Segura get into confrontation as Phillies lose to Blue Jays

The Philadelphia Phillies lost 10-8 to the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, and things boiled over in the dugout.

Television cameras showed a confrontation between manager Joe Girardi and second baseman Jean Segura on the bench. Segura committed two errors, but the conflict came in the first inning when the 31-year-old misplayed a soft one-hopper by Randal Grichuk.

After the game, Girardi refused to discuss the confrontation with reporters, saying, "That's a bench conversation, meant for the bench," according to The Associated Press.

"You can ask all you want; you got everything you're going to get about it," Girardi added. "I'm done with it."

Segura has committed four errors in 26 games this season, which is the second-most on the team behind Didi Gregorius, who has six.

Despite his errors in the field, Segura has had a solid year at the plate, slashing .320/.349/.450 with two home runs and eight RBI on 32 hits.

Philadelphia is second in the NL East with a 21-20 record and is in a tight battle for the top spot with the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. If the Phillies want to improve, they'll need Segura to play better in the field.
