The Kansas City Royals lost to the Detroit Tigers on Monday by a score of 6-4.

With the loss, the Royals fell to a second-worst in baseball 19-53 while the win uplifted the Tigers to 31-40.

In defeat, the Royals made unfortunate and sad baseball history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

The Royals have lost each of Jordan Lyles' 15 starts this season. That is the longest losing streak when a pitcher starts to begin a season in AL/NL history.

While Lyles has had a very tough year, this one was not his fault. He went six innings, allowed six hits and three runs. He walked one and struck out three. Royals reliever Taylor Clarke blew the save by allowing three runs in the seventh inning.

Even with a strong start in the no decision, Lyles is still 0-11 this season and owns an inflated ERA of 6.72.

He's in his 13th year in the major leagues, having played for the Astros, Rockies, Brewers, Rangers, Orioles, Padres, Pirates and Royals.

He's a lifetime 66-101 with a 5.20 ERA. He has won double-digit games in three different seasons. He signed a two-year, $17 million contract with the Royals this offseason.

The Royals had a 4-0 lead in this one. The 19-53 record for the Royals is just one game better than the A's (19-55) for the worst record in baseball.

The two teams will play each other again on Tuesday as Daniel Lynch goes for KC and Michael Lorenzen pitches for the homestanding Tigers.
