Kyle Wright hasn’t pitched for the Braves since May 3rd. Wright struggled with shoulder injuries that bugged him at the end of last season and during this offseason. He looks to have shaken those troubles off, at least thus far:
The one hit that Wright gave up was a comebacker off of his glove. According to Grant McCauley, he was sitting around 93 mph in the first inning, which is decent as he gets ramped up. It’s good to see Wright throwing strikes; something that gave him issues early in the season. I think it helps that there is little to no pressure on him; the Braves have been doing just fine without him. He’s going to make a good rotation even better. So, when could we see Wright?
The Braves are going to want to see Wright pitch in the majors a few times before the playoffs begin. They would have that option when the rosters expand in September, or by moving Yonny Chirinos to the 60-day IL to free up a 40-man roster spot. Neither of those are going to be difficult options, and the Braves will likely take one of those two avenues. Wright will probably make at least one more rehab start in Gwinnett, with the potential for more considering he hasn’t pitched in a few months. Regardless, I think I speak for everyone when I say this start was a welcome sight.
