Mariners activate OF Mitch Haniger from 60-day IL
In the thick of the AL Wild Card hunt, the Seattle Mariners are adding a big piece back to their lineup for the home stretch of the 2022 season.
On Saturday, the Mariners activated outfielder Mitch Haniger from the 60-day injured list.
Haniger has missed over two months of action with a Grade 2 right ankle sprain. He's been out of the Mariners' lineup since April 29, when he twisted his ankle during an at-bat against the Miami Marlins. The Mariners placed Haniger on the 10-day IL the following day, later transferring him to the 60-day IL.
The 31-year-old played in just nine games before suffering the injury. Haniger is batting .200/.222/.486 with three home runs and seven RBI over 36 plate appearances.
A healthy Haniger could significantly boost the Mariners' playoff hopes. Last season, Haniger finished with career highs in home runs (39) and RBI (100), slashing .253/.318/.485 in 157 games.
The Mariners optioned Abraham Toro to Triple-A Tacoma to make room for Haniger on the active roster.
In 84 games with the big club, Toro had eight home runs and 26 RBI, slashing .180/.239/.322.
