Members of Red Sox organization are 'embarrassed' over dull offseason

With Opening Day less than two months away, many within the Boston Red Sox organization are expressing frustration with the offseason, according to NBC Sports Boston's John Tomase

Tomase refers to the overall feeling of "embarrassment" reportedly being expressed by members of the organization. He noted that this does not include players.

"I think that there are people in this organization who are genuinely embarrassed by the way the offseason unfolded, by the product that they are going to be putting on the field this year, by the fact that we go into a season kind of knowing that they're going to finish last," Tomase reported on "Arbella Early Edition" Friday. "I think people are legitimately embarrassed."

The feeling of embarrassment is valid. The roster has arguably not improved since its last-place AL East finish last season. This comes after chairman Tom Werner claimed the Red Sox would go "full throttle" this winter.

One area that needs help is the starting rotation, and nothing has been done to improve it drastically. Right-hander Lucas Giolito's signing is definitely a step forward, but it is far from the solution. Chris Sale's 2024 Opening Day starter replacement still hasn't been found, as the left-hander is now a member of the Atlanta Braves.

Starters Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell are still available on the free-agent market, which gives many hope the team has a big move planned soon.

"If you left this up to Sam Kennedy and Tom Werner, the Red Sox would've done more this winter," Tomase said. "John Henry, however, is the principal owner of this team for a reason. To me, this is all coming down on him...I think this is all 100% on the owner of the Red Sox, and until he changes his mind about what he wants this team to look like, it's just going to be more of this."

Red Sox fans will have a long road ahead unless more significant signings are made to improve the team before Opening Day.
