Mets ace Jacob deGrom not too concerned about elbow injury

New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom continues to dazzle this season.

The two-time Cy Young winner allowed just one hit and struck out 10 batters over six shutout innings in the Mets' 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday. He also hit a two-run single to the opposite field, giving him more RBI (five) than earned runs (four) this season.

However, there was concern when deGrom exited after throwing just 80 pitches. It was later announced that he left the game due to right flexor tendonitis, an injury that could potentially pause his historic season if a stint on the injured list is needed.

After the game, the 32-year-old said he wasn't concerned.

"My level of concern is not too high," deGrom said, according to ESPN's Bradford Doolittle. "I'm pretty sure it's going to be something that we can treat and hopefully not miss any time."

Mets manager Luis Rojas is taking deGrom's word for it, adding that he also isn't worried about the injury.

"I'm not concerned either, just because Jake is not," Rojas said. "This is a guy who knows his body really well, knows his arm really well.''

DeGrom is now 6-2 on the season with a 0.56 ERA, 0.531 WHIP and 103 strikeouts in 64 innings. He owns the lowest ERA through 10 starts since earned runs became an official stat in 1913.
