Mets ace Jacob deGrom placed on 10-day injured list with forearm tightness

New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom has been placed on the 10-day injured list with right forearm tightness, manager Luis Rojas told reporters Sunday, including Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News.

DeGrom will not make his next scheduled start because of the injury. However, he's considered day-to-day.

New York's decision to place the right-hander on the IL comes after he felt tightness that caused him to cut his bullpen session short on Friday. An MRI later revealed no structural damage.

DeGrom has arguably been the best pitcher in Major League Baseball this season, going 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA, 0.554 WHIP and 146 strikeouts in 92 innings.

However, the 33-year-old has been slowed by several injuries this year. He has dealt with right lat tightness, right side tightness, right flexor tendinitis and right shoulder soreness, in addition to the current right forearm tightness.

Despite the issues, this is just the second IL stint for deGrom this season. Rojas has indicated in the past that he doesn't believe the ailments are related.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, deGrom said Sunday that he's frustrated the forearm tightness hasn't gone away yet. He had hoped it would subside before returning from the All-Star break.
