Mets' Brandon Nimmo: 'For me' wearing a mask 'does more harm than good'

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo isn't discouraged that a coronavirus outbreak among members of the Miami Marlins resulted in MLB canceling a pair of Monday games.

Nimmo spoke with reporters via a video conference call and discussed how members of the Mets are and aren't following health and safety protocols.

Nimmo either isn't aware or doesn't care that MLB rules for the season held amid the coronavirus pandemic prohibit players exchanging high fives or fist bumps and that the league has repeatedly warned clubs after witnessing players and coaches ignore those guidelines during and after games.

MLB isn't yet considering canceling the campaign despite enduring at least one virus outbreak after the season's opening weekend. Nimmo believes league personnel can complete the year as long as everybody involved protects each other.

New York dropped two of three to the division-rival Atlanta Braves at Citi Field to begin the season. The Mets play the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Monday evening.
