Mets' Francisco Lindor a fan of MLB rule changes

As ESPN's Jeff Passan noted, MLB officially approved multiple rule changes on Friday that include the implementation of a pitch clock, a ban on the controversial defensive shift and larger bases beginning with the 2023 season.

Passan added that MLB Players Association representatives voted against the pitch clock and restrictions on defensive shifts. While speaking with reporters ahead of Friday's series opener at the Miami Marlins, New York Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor, who serves as an MLBPA Alternate Association Player Representative, offered praise for the changes.

"I like it, I like it," Lindor explained, according to Robert Sanchez of SNY. "I don’t step out of the box when it comes to the pitch clock. I don’t pitch. I think it’s going to be good, and bigger bases is probably for safety, safety reasons and the shift is going to hopefully create a little bit more offense so we’ll see."

Lindor added that the ban on traditional defensive shifts may allow him to complete more unique "Web Gems" down the road.

"Attitude definitely changed, but I’m all for being in a position where I can be athletic and move a little bit more and try to make more defensive plays," he said. "I think this is going to put us in a better position to make good plays and crazy plays."

Lindor is already a two-time Gold Glove winner with an impressive defensive résumé:

He began Friday night tied for ninth in all of MLB with 89 RBI on the season, per ESPN stats.
