Mets' Francisco Lindor returns from strained right oblique

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is back, even if his return might be too little, too late for the Amazins.

Mets manager Luis Rojas told reporters that Lindor will be activated and placed in the lineup for Tuesday's home game versus the San Francisco Giants. Lindor hasn't played since July 16 because of a strained right oblique.

"It’s huge that we’re having him back, right," Rojas said of Lindor, per

Anthony DiComo of the MLB website. "Having his presence on the field is something that we missed for over a month now -- his energy, his bat, his defense, everything he brings to help the team win games. It’s been hard to be out there without his presence. I know a lot of guys are better because he’s there."

Lindor was ice cold at the plate across his first two months with the Mets but was showing signs of life until the injury setback:

He hit the IL batting .228 with 11 home runs and 36 RBI in 87 contests on the campaign.

The Mets head into Tuesday evening at 61-63 and six-and-a-half games back of the first-place Atlanta Braves in the National League East standings.
