Mets hopeful Jacob deGrom will return to rotation in early August

New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom threw off the mound Sunday for the first time in more than a week, and manager Luis Rojas said the right-hander had "no complaints" following the session.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets are now planning a rehab start for deGrom and are hopeful he'll return to the rotation in early August.

DeGrom is slowly working his way back after being placed on the injured list last week with forearm tightness. This is the 33-year-old's second stint on the IL, though he has dealt with several other injuries this year, including right lat tightness, right side tightness, right flexor tendinitis and right shoulder soreness, in addition to the current right forearm tightness.

The two-time Cy Young winner has been one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball this season, going 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA, 0.554 WHIP and 146 strikeouts in 92 innings.

In addition to deGrom, pitchers Carlos Carrasco (torn hamstring) and David Peterson (broken foot, oblique strain) are also on the injured list. Carrasco appears closer to a return, while Peterson may not pitch again this season.
