Mets likely to keep Luis Rojas as manager

The New York Mets have a new owner and team president, but the club's manager seems set to keep his job through the start of next season.

Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Mets team president Sandy Alderson told reporters on Tuesday that it's "very likely" Luis Rojas will get to start his second season as New York manager. Alderson added, though, that he has "left the door slightly ajar" pending the wishes of a yet-to-be-named new president of baseball operations.

Billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen assumed ownership of the Mets on Friday and almost immediately dismissed general manager Brodie Van Wagenen and executives Omar Minaya, Allard Baird, Adam Guttridge and Jared Banner.

The Mets appointed Rojas manager last January after the club parted ways with Carlos Beltran due to Beltran's role in the much-publicized Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal. A New York team not built to win much of note finished the pandemic-shortened campaign fourth in the National League East standings at 26-34.

Under Cohen's leadership, the Mets are expected to increase their payroll and pursue top players in free agency and via potential offseason trades. The Amazins are routinely linked with Cleveland Indians superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor, and it's believed Cleveland is willing to trade the 26-year-old before spring training sessions begin.
