Mets make Nancy Elder first chief communications officer

The New York Mets will be looking to add their names to one record book, in particular, before this coming fall ends, but the Amazins made history in a different way on Thursday.

Per an official press release, the Mets named Nancy Elder their first-ever chief communications officer and also made her a member of the front office's senior leadership team.

Elder previously served as chief communications officer for the DAZN Group sports media company, where she oversaw global communications, analyst relations, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and social impact. She also oversaw the company's women’s sports strategy linked with competitions such as the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Per Diana Bradley of PR Week, Elder first joined DAZN in 2019 and has also held roles with Mattel, JetBlue, General Electric, MasterCard, Marsh & McLennan and Time Warner. In the newly-created position with the Mets, Elder will report to team president Sandy Alderson and be responsible for the franchise's communications strategy and public affairs.

"Having grown up in Montreal, I’ve been a fan of the Mets since Gary Carter joined in 1985 and I am honored to support this iconic and dynamic organization," Elder said for the release.

Alderson added:

"Nancy is a seasoned executive who is widely respected in the industry and will bring great leadership and expertise to advance our communications and brand strategy. Her experience creating strategic vision and innovative programs and partnerships will be an asset to the Mets as we look to grow the organization’s impact on and off the field."
