The New York Mets could still make a splash before the offseason is over.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Mets are considering adding another hitter.

And as Andy Martino of SNY reported earlier in the month, the Mets could acquire a designated hitter if they make a big splash.

The Mets have a hole in their lineup at the DH spot, and J.D. Martinez, Jorge Soler and Justin Turner are all available. Turner would make a lot of sense because he can also play third base, and the Mets lost promising young infielder Ronny Mauricio to a torn ACL this winter.

If the Mets choose to not add a DH, those at-bats would likely go to Mark Vientos, who has struggled in limited action at the big-league level. However, Vientos has shown to have tremendous power at the plate so there is some upside there.

While the Mets could go with what they have, and president of baseball operations David Stearns called adding another bat non "essential," making an additional move to bolster their lineup would help their offense immensely.

As Martino also reported, the Mets would like to spend around $10 million to round out the offseason, and are focusing on relief pitching. But it appears that they are still considering adding another bat as well.
