Miami Marlins ace and reigning National League Cy Young award winner Sandy Alcantara is missing his start this afternoon against the Cleveland Guardians.

Alcantara is out with right biceps tendinitis and is being replaced by lefty Devin Smeltzer.

All in all, the team believes that Alcantara will be ok and will be able to start on Monday against the Atlanta Braves, but still, this is a concern.

He's struggled to start the season, pitching to a 5.47 ERA but most of that damage came in one start against the Phillies.

The 27-year-old is coming off one of the more dominant seasons in recent memory for the Marlins. Last year, he went 14-9 with a 2.28 ERA, making 32 starts and tossing 228.2 innings, which led all of baseball.

He also led baseball last year in complete games with six, shutouts with one and batters faced with 886.

Alcantara also received MVP votes last year and was named to his second all-star team. He also made the all-star team in 2019, which is ironic considering he actually went on to lead baseball in losses that year with 14.

For his career, he's 35-45 with a 3.18 ERA. He made his major league debut in 2017 with the St. Louis Cardinals and was traded to Miami as part of the trade for Marcell Ozuna.

Saturday's game was supposed to be a battle of Cy Young winners as Shane Bieber goes for the Guardians.

First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. The Marlins are currently 10-9 on the season.
