In the wake of losing hitting coach Brant Brown to the Seattle Mariners, the Miami Marlins have finalized their hitting coach structure for 2024.

Per Christina De Nicola of MLB.com:

Source: #Marlins have hired Bill Mueller as assistant hitting coach. John Mabry, who was an assistant hitting coach in 2023, is being promoted to the No. 1 guy.

Reminder that hitting coach Brant Brown left to take a job in Seattle.

Mabry spent parts of 14 seasons in the big leagues with the Cardinals, Mariners, Padres, Marlins, Phillies, A's, Cubs and Rockies. A productive hitter, he had a lifetime .263 average with 96 homers and 446 RBI. He popped a career-best 13 homers in both 1996 and 2004. He was part of four different teams that went to the playoffs in his career, including the 2005 Cardinals, who went to the NLCS.

MLBTradeRumors had more on his coaching career:

Mabry joined the Cardinals’ coaching staff as an assistant hitting coach in 2012 and was later promoted to lead hitting coach in St. Louis as well — a role he held until the 2018 season. He also spent three years on the Royals’ staff prior to joining the Fish. He and Marlins skipper/2023 NL Manager of the Year Skip Schumaker were teammates with the Cards during Schumaker’s rookie season in 2005.

As for Mueller, he was an 11-year veteran who played for the Giants, Red Sox, Cubs and Dodgers. He is known for being a member of the 2004 Red Sox that broke the "Curse of the Bambino." He won a batting title in 2003 with Boston when he hit .326.

Lifetime, he was a .291 hitter with 85 homers and 493 RBI.

The Marlins won 84 games last season and advanced to the National League playoffs as a wild card team. They were beaten in the wild card round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Miami will have work to do this offseason if they want to get back to the playoffs after losing their best slugger, Jorge Soler. He opted out of his deal but could still return on a new one.
