Mike Trout climbs up impressive list with another All-Star nod

Three-time MVP Mike Trout doesn't need any more accolades, but they keep coming for the future Hall of Famer. On Thursday, Trout earned his 11th trip to the MLB All-Star Game, but one number proves the Los Angeles Angels star is a genuine fan-favorite.

For the 10th time in his career, baseball fans voted Trout into the Midsummer Classic. Trout moves into a third-place tie with Seattle Mariners great Ken Griffey Jr. for the most fan-elected All-Star nods with one team. Trout, at only 31, trails only George Brett (11) with the Kansas City Royals and Cal Ripken Jr. (17) with the Baltimore Orioles for the most since fan voting for starters reemerged in 1970.

Before hearing the news of his selection for this year's showcase in Seattle, Trout put on an All-Star-worthy performance Thursday afternoon in the Angels' 9-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Trout finished with three hits and robbed White Sox first baseman Andrew Vaughn of a home run in the fourth inning.

Through 77 games, Trout is slashing .260/.367/.491. Trout ranks second on the Angels in home runs (17) and third in hits (75) and RBI (42).

Trout will start in center field for the American League, joined by teammate Shohei Ohtani elected as the designated hitter. Ohtani received an automatic bid to the All-Star Game after earning the most votes in the AL through phase one. The overwhelming favorite for AL MVP boasts an MLB-best 29 home runs while also dominating on the mound, ranked third in strikeouts (127).
