Julio Teheran Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers took a gamble on a veteran starting pitcher earlier in the year as they signed a 32-year-old veteran to a one-year,  $1.5M deal.  They did this despite the pitcher not throwing in the Major Leagues since 2021.

Initially, the returns from this signing were magnificent and the quality starts were piling up.  Unfortunately, more recently the results have not been good.  One potential contributing factor to this may have been that he was pitching through an injury because Milwaukee has placed starting pitcher Julio Teheran on the 15-day IL.

Struggling starting pitcher Julio Teheran was placed on the Milwaukee Brewers 15-day IL.

During his first six starts with the Brewers Julio Teheran had a 1.53 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and .192 batting average against in 35.1 innings pitched.  Over his last five games and 27.1 innings pitched he has a 8.89 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and .319 batting average against.

It is possible that an underlying injury was contributing to this for Milwaukee has placed him on the IL with hip impingement.  He has also pitched against the Braves twice and the Phillies once for three of his last five starts, but his blow up outings came against the Mets on June 27 (seven earned runs), Cubs on July 3 (six earned runs), and Braves on July 29 (nine earned runs).

With Brandon Woodruff nearing a return from a lengthy IL stint and Wade Miley slotted to return mid week it is possible that once Julio Teheran is healthy that he finds himself on the outside looking in of the starting rotation.  No time table has been given for his injury, but for now he will focus on getting healthy.
