Craig Counsell's move to Chicago shocked the baseball world on Monday, and one player is apparently frustrated with how it all played out.

The Chicago Cubs poached Counsell from the Milwaukee Brewers , less than a week after his contract expired. Within a few hours, catcher William Contreras took to social media to react to his manager joining a division rival following five playoff bids in six years.

Contreras didn't need words to express his feelings, simply posting three facepalm emojis on X – the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Contreras got traded to Milwaukee last winter following three years with the Atlanta Braves, including an All-Star appearance in 2022.

In his first season with the Brewers, Contreras hit .291 with 17 home runs, 78 RBI, an .828 OPS and a 3.7 WAR. The 25-year-old went 3-for-9 with a walk in the Brewers' NL Wild Card Series loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Contreras is under contract with the Brewers for another four seasons.

William's brother, Willson Contreras, played for the Cubs from 2016 to 2022. In the earliest days of that stint, Willson was part of a catcher rotation that also included David Ross, who went on to become Chicago's manager in 2020.

Ross was unceremoniously replaced when the Cubs hired Counsell on Monday, although the club has yet to announce exactly what Ross' future holds.

Whether he was frustrated with Counsell rejecting an extension from the Brewers, his manager leaving in favor of an NL Central rival or his brother's former teammate and manager getting surprisingly disposed of, William Contreras made sure to vent on a public platform regardless Monday afternoon.
