The Minnesota Twins have placed Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list, after he left the game in Chicago the other night with a reported knee injury. Austin Martin, who was sent down when Carlos Correa returned to the Twins’ lineup last week, has been recalled to replace Buxton.

On the season, Byron Buxton is batting .250 with a .691 OPS, including 12 RBI, 11 runs and just 1 stolen base. Prior to his injury, however, the 30-year-old had played in 28 of 30 games, a very impressive number for any player, especially one with the injury history he has.

How did Byron Buxton hurt his knee?

The injury was non-contact and happened as Byron was attempting to steal 2nd base. It was the exact injury you do not want to see. Reports so far have been semi-positive.

According to Phil Miller (Star Tribune), Buxton’s MRI came back negative, thank the baseball gods. The IL stint is necessary, continues Phil, because “it’s still sore”. That tells me he will be on the injured list until that knee is feeling better. So… stay tuned.

How bad is Byron Buxton’s knee injury for the Minnesota Twins?

I know Buck hasn’t been the guy the Twins need him to be but having him on the field makes this team better and, when he gets hot, he instantly becomes one of the best players in the league. He may not be that guy on a consistent basis anymore (if he ever was), but he still has that guy in him for 10-30 game stretches.
