MLB COVID-19 injured list to remain anonymous?

As Mike Axisa of CBS Sports explained last week, Major League Baseball added a COVID-19 Related Injured List to the rule book for conducting the 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Don't expect to know who is on that list this summer.

Along with providing health updates for multiple members of his squad, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters that teams cannot name who is or isn't on the COVID-19 list during the 60-game campaign:

Per Axisa, stays on the COVID-19 list vary per situation. Someone on it can resume playing once he returns a pair of negative test results and gets the OK from team physicians.

No protocols will, of course, prevent fans and media members from speculating whenever a manager removes a player from a lineup or rotation on any given day. Remember that it wasn't long before the world learned the anonymous Utah Jazz players who tested positive for the coronavirus before the NBA suspended play on March 11 were Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.

Spring training 2.0 sessions get underway around the league later this week. It's rumored Opening Day is tentatively scheduled for July 23.
