MLB insider calls Mets fans 'the worst'

ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan has made it known he would like New York Mets fans to relax ahead of the upcoming weekend and the start of May.

"The Mets are going to be fine," Passan said during a Thursday appearance on "The Tony Kornheiser Show," as shared by Sam Neumann of Awful Announcing. "They’ve lost four in a row. Mets fans, I love them, but they’re just the worst."

Passan was reacting to takes he's received and noticed from Mets fans following back-to-back losses at the San Francisco Giants that were followed by two straight home defeats against the lowly Washington Nationals. While New York began Thursday at 14-11 on the young season, Washington was in the basement of the National League East standings at 9-14.

After a three-game sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers in early April, star shortstop Francisco Lindor insisted he still knew the Mets "have what it takes" and "the 'it' factor" needed to compete for more than just a playoff berth. Fans clearly remain unconvinced regardless of Lindor's confidence.

"Mets fans, they take every game like it’s the end of the world," Passan continued during the segment. "And I love them for it. And I loathe them for it."

The Mets have gone 2-4 since co-ace Max Scherzer began serving his suspension for violating MLB rules related to the use of foreign substances during games. Scherzer will miss four more contests before he's eligible to return this coming Monday against the first-place Atlanta Braves, and New York's rotation is also without fellow co-ace Justin Verlander (strained shoulder), Jose Quintana (stress fracture in his rib) and Carlos Carrasco (inflammation in his throwing elbow)

Verlander may, however, make his Mets debut on Wednesday at the Detroit Tigers unless he experiences a setback during a rehab start. One can only imagine how Mets fans will be feeling by the time Verlander takes the bump for a meaningful game for the first time as a member of the organization.
