MLB prospect arrivals to look forward to in 2017

Perhaps the most exciting middle infield prospect the Braves have produced since Rafael Furcal, Albies hit .292-6-53 with 30 steals between Double-A and Triple-A at age 19 last season. The team is likely to shift him over to second base full time due to Dansby Swanson's emergence at short. 

Bader emerged as a strong prospect in his first full season as a pro after hitting .267-19-58 between Double-A and Triple-A last year. He did struggle at Triple-A Memphis, so the Cardinals are likely to give him more seasoning.

Arizona traded away several high-upside prospects last offseason but did retain Banda. He had a great season between Double-A and Triple-A, going 10-6 with a 2.88 ERA and more than one strikeout per inning. The lefty could compete for a rotation spot in spring training.

Barreto spent the majority of last season at Double-A Midland, hitting .284-11-53 with 30 steals for the year. He's had no trouble hitting in the minors.

Tampa Bay hasn't produced many high-upside power prospects recently, but Bauers is capable. In his age 20 season at Double-A, he hit .274-14-78 with 73 walks. He should be up in the second half of the season.

One of the elite power prospects in the minors, Bellinger hit 26 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A last season at age 20. The Dodgers have a crowded roster, but Bellinger has the upside to bust his way through.

Acquired from Texas last season in the Jonathan Lucroy trade, Brinson is an athletic center field prospect who hit .268-15-61 with 17 steals between Double-A and Triple-A last season. The Brewers likely want him to get a longer look at Triple-A, but center field is open for him.

Second base remains open for the Dodgers, and Calhoun could get a shot late in the season. He had a breakout year at Double-A Tulsa, hitting .254-27-88 with a great contact rate.

An elite power prospect, Chapman hit .237-36-96 between Double-A and Triple-A last season. His poor contact and batting average are concerns that should keep him in the minors until the second half of the season.

Cozens led the minors in home runs last season, hitting .276-40-125 with 21 steals. He did get the help of a hitter-friendly environment at Double-A Reading, so he will have to prove himself at Triple-A before getting a major league promotion.

The polished Crawford found struggles at the plate in Triple-A last season, batting .250-7-43 with 12 steals for the year. He should still be in Philly soon, however.

Acquired from Cleveland in the Andrew Miller trade last season, Frazier hit .263-16-55 with 13 steals between Double-A and Triple-A last season. He's unlikely to break camp with the Yankees but should be up by midseason.

A former basketball player at St. John's, Garrett had a great season between Double-A and Triple-A in 2016 with a 2.55 ERA. He still needs time to work on his control, but the upside of the No. 2 starter is present.

The Twins are desperate for pitching, and Gonsalves isn't far away. He had a 2.06 ERA in 24 starts last season, working his way up to Double-A. His dominant strikeout rate shows ace potential.

Often compared to Chris Sale due to his sidearm motion and wipe-out stuff, Hader had a 3.29 ERA and 11.5 K/9 in 25 starts between Double-A and Triple-A last season. He should get more time in the minors to work on his control.

One of the top control pitchers in the minors, Honeywell had a 2.34 ERA in 20 starts between High-A and Double-A last season. He's unique for his ability to throw a screwball.

Houston's top pitching prospect, Martes had a 3.30 ERA in 125.1 innings at Double-A Corpus Christi last season. His ability to miss bats should play in any role.

It looked like Meadows' arrival could come early when the Pirates were shopping Andrew McCutchen this offseason, but it's probably best for him to get more time at Triple-A after struggling last season. The former first-round pick did hit .266-12-47 at age 21 between three levels last season.

Pittsburgh's top pick in 2015, Newman hit .320 with 43/36 BB/K between High-A and Double-A last season. His polish could get him to the majors quickly.

O'Neill topped his breakout 2015 season with a spectacular year at Double-A Jackson last year. He hit .293-24-102 with a big increase in walks. The M's are very excited for a likely second-half arrival.

Rosario had a breakout year offensively, hitting .324-5-71 with 19 steals between High-A and Double-A in his age 20 season. The Mets could see him near the end of the season.

Acquired last season from the Cubs for Aroldis Chapman, Torres is coming off a tremendous Arizona Fall League campaign. That could spur his promotions after hitting .270-11-66 with 21 steals at High-A last season.

Winker's 2016 season was somewhat disappointing after hitting only three home runs in 106 games at Triple-A Louisville, but he remained a strong on-base hitter. He hit .303 with 59/59 BB/K and could win a roster spot in the majors this spring.

Woodruff was dominant between High-A and Double-A last season, with a 2.91 ERA and 9.9 K/9. He will get a big challenge at Triple-A in 2017 before his major league promotion.

A toolsy center field prospect, Zimmer hit .250-15-62 with 38 steals between Double-A and Triple-A last season. There are concerns about his high strikeout rate that should keep him in the minors to start 2017.
