After another disappointing season without a playoff berth in Anaheim, many are wondering about the status and job security of many in the organization.

At the top of the list is Halos manager Phil Nevin, who's been criticized by many fans throughout the year, enough to make some pundits also wonder if he'll be back in 2024 in the Angels' dugout.

“I wouldn’t rule out [Nevin] staying, but he’s certainly in jeopardy," Jon Heyman said.

"Phil Nevin is probably one of those guys who we’re gonna talk a lot about these next few weeks [as on the hot seat]," Joel Sherman said.

Nevin took over for Joe Maddon in the midst of a historic losing streak for the franchise in the 2022 season, unable to steer them to a winning record or even a .500 mark.

Regardless of that, Nevin was brought back for a full 2023 season and the results have sadly been more of the same.

Though how much Nevin is to blame for the team's historic collapse and their disastrous deadline remains to be seen, his performance hasn't been ideal for a team with far more talent than their losing record would indicate.

GM Perry Minasian's shockingly aggressive moves to trade for now Cleveland Guardian Lucas Giolito and Seattle Mariner Dominic Leone were in efforts to aid Shohei Ohtani's ultimately unsuccessful quest to see playoff baseball.

Controversially holding onto him at the deadline, Ohtani ended up injured and recently underwent surgery for his torn UCL and shut his season down overall for a tweaked oblique.

Without Ohtani in the lineup, the Angels and the rest of their injured core have struggled once more in 2023, much like the organization has since 2014.

Changes will need to be made and it could start with Nevin being ushered out from his manager role.
