New York Mets first round pick in the 2019 MLB draft Brett Baty Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

New York Mets to call up aptly named prospect Brett Baty

The New York Mets have been one of the best stories in baseball this season, and not just because of their on-field play. The Mets have personality, from Edwin Diaz's trumpets to Daniel Vogelbach coming up to bat to "Milkshake."

The Mets, currently on top of the National League East, seemingly have everything going for them.

It can get better though. When it rains in New York, it apparently pours. That's a good thing, at least in this example.

Not only are the Mets crushing the baseball game right now, but they just called up a top prospect whose name would suggest that he was born to crush baseballs as well.

Brett Baty, welcome to the majors.

His name would suggest that he absolutely rakes at the plate, and his stats back that up as well.

Drafted No. 12 overall by the Mets in the 2019 draft, Baty has hit .315/.410/.533 with 19 home runs and 60 RBIs this season in the minors. According to MLB.com, he's the Mets' second-best prospect, behind only Francisco Álvarez.

Baty is expected to join the team in Atlanta as the Mets look to fend off the Braves, who are just a few games back from New York in the divisional standings.
