No timetable for Terry Francona return to Indians following medical tests

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona remains away from the club as he continues to undergo examinations for a gastrointestinal issue, and it's unknown when he'll return to the team.

Francona missed Sunday's game versus the Minnesota Twins because of the problem, and he underwent tests at the Cleveland Clinic on Monday as the Indians traveled to Cincinnati to face the Reds at Great American Ball Park on Monday and Tuesday.

According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Francona met with doctors on Tuesday and has additional appointments scheduled for Wednesday. The Indians host the Reds at Progressive Field on Wednesday and Thursday before heading back on the road for a series with the Chicago White Sox.

Indians president Chris Antonetti told reporters on Tuesday he doesn't expect Francona, 61 years old, will miss a lengthy amount of time. Antonetti added, though, that the team wants Francona to feel better before the skipper is back in the dugout.

Francona dealt with similar stomach issues during spring training in March before MLB shut the league down due to the coronavirus pandemic. It's believed Francona's latest setback isn't related to COVID-19.

Cleveland lost three straight in Minnesota before dropping Monday's tilt at Cincinnati.
