The Baltimore Orioles fired manager Brandon Hyde on Saturday.

The Orioles have gone from a playoff team the past two seasons to second to last in the American League. Only the Chicago White Sox (14-31) have a worse record than Baltimore (15-28) in the AL.

The Orioles been plagued by injuries to start the season, as well as underachieving performances by players including All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman, who is hitting just .214 with four homers and 11 RBIs.

Hyde, 51, was in his seventh season with the Orioles and had a 421-492 record in the regular season. In the postseason, his teams were 0-5.

"As the head of baseball operations, the poor start to our season is ultimately my responsibility," said Mike Elias, the team's general manager and executive vice president. "Part of that responsibility is pursuing difficult changes in order to set a different course for the future."

Third base coach Tony Mansolino, 42, will serve as interim manager. He has been on the coaching staff since 2021 and has four seasons of managerial experience in the Cleveland Guardians' farm system. He was on the staff of the Guardians in 2020.

The Orioles also fired Tim Cossins, the club's major league field coordinator and catching instructor. Robinson Chirinos will remain the bench coach.

Baltimore has lost 10 of the past 12 games to fall 10 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East. The Orioles lost the opener of their three game series with the Washington Nationals 4-3 on Friday.

Hyde becomes the third manager fired in the 2025 season, following Derek Shelton of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Bud Black of the Colorado Rockies.
