Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle ties franchise record with monster game against A's

Ryan Mountcastle tied the Orioles franchise record for RBIs in a game with nine in the team's 12-8 win over Oakland Tuesday night.

It was a career day for Mountcastle, whose previous high for RBI in a game was four, most recently on September 3, 2022, also against the A's.

Baltimore needed every bit of his historic performance in its comeback win. His first RBI came on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first with the Orioles down 1-0. Two innings later, he tied the game at two when he drove Jorge Mateo in with a single to center field.

The fireworks really got going in the bottom of the fifth with Baltimore trailing 7-3. Mountcastle closed the gap to one with a three-run shot to center.

Coming to the plate in the seventh inning with five RBI, Mountcastle blasted a 456-foot grand slam to give Baltimore a five-run lead that proved too big for Oakland to overcome.

Entering the game, Mountcastle had nine RBI through the first 10 games of the season.

Per The Baltimore Sun's Nathan Ruiz, thanks to the outburst, he joins Chris Davis as the only two players in franchise history with at least five home runs and 18 RBI through 11 games.

That season, Davis led the majors with 53 home runs and 138 RBI. In a tough AL East, a special season like that might be needed from Mountcastle. He's off to a good start.
