Padres place Jurickson Profar on 7-day concussion IL after scary collision Thursday

San Diego Padres left fielder Jurickson Profar suffered a concussion and cervical strain after a scary outfield collision with teammate C.J. Abrams on Thursday night.

The Padres placed Profar on the 7-day concussion injured list on Friday night.

The next step for Profar is to complete the league's concussion protocols.

"We'll see where we go from there and see if he passes all the protocols after that," Padres manager Bob Melvin said. "But I think we really caught a break and there's nothing worse than that."

Profar is batting .242/.343/.397 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 83 games for the Padres this season.

The Padres recalled outfielder Brent Rooker from Triple-A El Paso to take Profar's spot on the active roster.

In 49 games for El Paso, Rooker is batting .279/.401/.596 with 14 home runs and 43 RBI.

He played 58 games for the Minnesota Twins in 2021, batting .201/.291/.397 with nine home runs and 16 RBI.
