Vladimir Guerrero is officially headed to Cooperstown, and his son may actually have an opportunity to follow suit if you ask one fellow Dominican.

Retired former Cy Young winner Pedro Martinez said on Thursday that he believes Guerrero’s son Vladimir Jr, who is also Martinez’s godson, will be just as special as his famous father. Here were Martinez’s full remarks, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of SportsNet.

Guerrero Jr, 18, is a third baseman in the Toronto Blue Jays organization and is widely seen as one of the elite young prospects in the game. Granted, the elder Guerrero made nine All-Star teams, won eight Silver Sluggers, and was an AL MVP. But considering how Guerrero Jr is terrorizing minor league pitching right now, it’s easy to see where Martinez is coming from.
