Phillies' Bryce Harper on IL with bruised forearm

Philadelphia Phillies star slugger Bryce Harper has had a rough spring, during which he's taken a 97-mph fastball to the face and dealt with an injured wrist.

On Tuesday, the Phillies placed Harper on the injured list retroactive to Sunday with a left forearm contusion. In a corresponding roster move, Philadelphia activated outfielder Roman Quinn from the IL ahead of Tuesday's matchup against the Miami Marlins.

Per ESPN and the Associated Press, Harper went 0-for-16 before he sat out on Sunday and Monday. The 28-year-old is hitting .274 with seven home runs and 13 RBIs on the season.

Harper has also recently experienced a sore right shoulder, but manager Joe Girardi told reporters Monday he did not believe that was a concern. "He has not said anything about it," Girardi explained, according to the MLB website. "He’s been scuffling a little bit and sometimes a couple days off helps players, and I just chose to give him another day off."

The Phillies head into Tuesday's action at 23-25 overall and in fourth place in the National League East standings.
