The Pittsburgh Pirates made a key roster move on Wednesday, placing catcher Joey Bart on the 7-day injured list due to a concussion. In a corresponding move, the team activated Endy Rodriguez from the 10-day injured list, adding depth behind the plate as they navigate a challenging stretch of the season.

Bart exited a recent game after taking a foul tip to the mask, and the Pirates wasted no time prioritizing his health by placing him in MLB’s concussion protocol. The team has not announced a timeline for his return, but Bart will remain out for at least a week while he recovers and undergoes further evaluation.

Endy Rodriguez returns at a crucial time. The 24-year-old catcher had been sidelined with a right forearm strain but now rejoins the active roster at full strength. Before his injury, Rodriguez flashed his potential both at the plate and behind the dish, showcasing solid contact skills and strong defensive instincts.

Manager Derek Shelton expressed confidence in Rodriguez’s readiness. “Endy worked hard to get back. He looks sharp, and we know he’s capable of handling our pitching staff,” Shelton said.

Bart had begun finding his rhythm at the plate, and his absence leaves a gap in the Pirates’ depth. However, Rodriguez brings energy and versatility, giving Pittsburgh a much-needed boost as they continue to compete in the NL Central.

The Pirates also expect to rotate their backup catchers strategically, ensuring Rodriguez remains healthy and effective. With Bart recovering and Rodriguez now available, the team hopes to maintain stability during a demanding portion of the schedule.
