Police: Five people tried to set Indians' Progressive Field on fire
Following a peaceful protest in downtown Cleveland last Saturday over the killing of George Floyd, an unarmed African American man who died while in Minneapolis police custody on May 25, pockets of individuals turned destructive and damaged handfuls of local businesses.
As noted by television station WKYC, the Team Shop at Progressive Field, the home of the Cleveland Indians, was broken into and looted.
On Friday, Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams explained a group of five people attempted to break into the ballpark with a fire starter "and intentions to destroy" during Saturday's events. They've since been arrested.
Per WKYC, the downtown Cleveland area was placed under curfew restrictions throughout the week under the order of Mayor Frank Jackson. Jackson's order expired early Friday morning.
Peaceful protests continued in the Cleveland area outside of downtown during the midweek.
