Rangers Clubhouse 'Insane' Says Reliever

Will Smith is new to the Texas Rangers. The relief pitcher was presented with his second-straight World Series ring this weekend by the Houston Astros. In 2021, he won a title with the Atlanta Braves.

Smith had only been to Globe Life Field as a visiting player before he signed with the Rangers during Spring Training. Once he made the team and began preparing to make the trip to Arlington, he started hearing stories about the Rangers’ clubhouse. Stories that, frankly, he thought were insane.

Now, he says the Rangers’ clubhouse is, well, “absolutely insane.”

“I think they told me it was over an acre big, which sounds crazy, like there is no way a clubhouse is an acre big,” Smith told Foul Territory on Monday.

Back in 2021, Bally Sports Southwest took a tour of the clubhouse. It includes the locker room, which features TVs that every player can see from their locker and a full-scale training room with medical offices. One hydrotub has a treadmill that allows trainers to go below it and watch players’ joint movement.

The clubhouse also has a full custom kitchen with its own dedicated cooking staff, along with dining tables and common areas. That proved a bit difficult for Smith to find.

“It took me two or three days just to figure out like my route to the kitchen every day,” Smith said.

There is also a two-story weight room and cardio area, along with a full-scale theater for team meetings and film study. Adjacent to it is a full film study area with computer stations and menus that allow players and coaches to call up any type of batting, fielding or pitching film they want. There is even a barber shop.

Smith admits he’s never seen anything like it.

“Anything you could possibly imagine, the Texas Rangers have it inside that clubhouse, so yeah, it’s nuts,” Smith said.
