Rangers met with Bruce Bochy this week amid search for new manager

After another dismal season in 2022, the Texas Rangers are in search of a new manager.

And on Friday, an interesting possible candidate emerged. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, former San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy met with the Rangers on Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News confirmed Rosenthal's report, but it's still unknown whether the meeting was an official interview for the Rangers' job.

The 67-year-old hasn't managed since 2019, retiring after 13 seasons and three World Series titles with the Giants. Managing the Giants and San Diego Padres over a 25-year career, Bochy compiled a record of 2,003-2,029, winning World Series titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014 in San Francisco.

While Bochy has yet to unretire officially, former longtime Giants beat writer Henry Schulman pointed out that Rangers GM Chris Young pitched for Bochy, adding that Texas has the "inside track" to land him if he does indeed decide to return to managing.

The Rangers suffered their sixth consecutive losing season in 2022, finishing fourth in the American League West Division with a 68-94 record.

Before the end of the season, the Rangers fired manager Chris Woodward and Josh Daniels, who served as the team's president of baseball operations.
