Rangers on historic offensive tear to start 2023 campaign

The Texas Rangers are off to an impressive 2-0 start to the 2023 season, and offensively, they're producing at a rate not seen in over 40 years.

Following a 16-3 blowout win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, the Rangers have scored 27 combined runs this season. According to ESPN's Sarah Langs, that's the second most through two games in Major League history, only three behind the 1951 Chicago White Sox.

The Rangers share the second spot with the Milwaukee Brewers (1978, 1980) and Kansas City Royals (1974).

On Saturday, Texas exploded for 16 runs of 17 hits in a 13-run victory over the reigning National League Champion Phillies. The Rangers bats chased Zack Wheeler after 4.1 innings and proceeded to victimize the Phillies' bullpen for 12 runs the rest of the way.

The Rangers defeated the Phillies 11-7 to open the season on Thursday. Texas got to ace Aaron Nola, tying an Opening Day franchise record with a nine-run fourth inning.

Seven Rangers have at least two RBI through two games this season. After a tremendous performance on Saturday, catcher Mitch Garver leads the way with two home runs and six RBI, batting 2-of-4 on the season with three runs scored.

Meanwhile, outfielders Robbie Grossman and Adolis Garcia have combined to go 8-of-15 from the plate with a home run and eight RBI.

Texas will look for the series sweep on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" starting at 7 p.m. EST. Bailey Falter takes the mound for the Phillies, while the Rangers will counter with veteran Martin Perez.
