Rangers' Shin-Soo Choo donating $190K to minor leaguers

Texas Rangers outfielder/designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo plans to help out minor leaguers in the Rangers system by donating $1,000 to each of the 190 players to help them get through this difficult time with the coronavirus outbreak, according to DKTV's Daniel Kim. The 37-year-old will donate a total of $190,000.

Choo's donation stems from wanting to help out minor leaguers like MLB veterans did for him so many years ago. While he began sharing his baseball experiences with the younger players, Choo desired to do something more.

Earlier in the week, MLB announced it'd donate $400 per week, including medical benefits, to every minor league player in baseball through the end of may. While the veteran players will see a pay cut, the lower-level players could see a raise with $400 coming in weekly.

Choo isn't the only player to donate during this difficult time. Orlando Magic point guard D.J. Augustin has made several donations to help out New Orleans medical workers, and former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski donated 20,000 masks to Boston Medical Center and a hospital in New Jersey.
