Red Sox 2B Trevor Story diagnosed with hairline fracture in wrist, will be shut down 10-14 days

A second opinion on Boston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story's left hand injury revealed a hairline fracture near his left wrist.

On Saturday, Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Story would be shut down from swinging a bat for at least 10 days.

Story has been out of action since July 12 after being hit in the left hand by a pitch from Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Corey Kluber.

Initially diagnosed with a hand contusion, Story was reportedly still feeling discomfort while swinging a bat this week, prompting a visit to a hand specialist who spotted the small break around Story's wrist.

If there's good news for the Red Sox, it's that Story's updated diagnosis isn't likely to change his rehab, nor the time he'll remain out of Boston's lineup.

"The treatment doesn't change. It's kind of like, we treat it the same way we're doing right now," Cora said. "Basically, like a strain. The only thing we have to do now is shut him down, swing-wise, for probably a week and a half and then see where we're at."

In his first season with the Red Sox, Story is batting .221/.289/.423 with 15 home runs and 58 RBi in 81 games.
