Red Sox, Dodgers reportedly among teams in market for starting pitcher ahead of trade deadline

It appears starting pitching is among the most desirable positions at this year's trade deadline as teams across Major League Baseball make their final push for the playoffs.

According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are among several teams looking to add to their rotation ahead of the July 30 deadline.

The Red Sox have surprisingly been one of the best team's in baseball this season after an abysmal 2020 campaign. Boston's offense has been unstoppable, and while the pitching has been decent, the club could use another arm as it has legitimate title aspirations this year.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora is currently using a rotation that includes Nathan Eovaldi, Eduardo Rodriguez, Nick Pivetta, Martin Perez, Garrett Richards and Tanner Houck.

With Chris Sale expected to return from Tommy John surgery next month, Boston could form one of the best rotations in baseball with another solid addition as Richards and Perez haven't impressed this season.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, could use an arm as MLB continues to investigate sexual assault allegations against Trevor Bauer, who has been on administrative leave since July 2.

L.A. signed Bauer to a three-year, $102 million deal before the 2021 season after winning the Cy Young award in 2020 as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. However, a majority of his teammates reportedly don't want him back in the clubhouse "under any circumstances."

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is currently rotating Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Julio Urias, Tony Gonsolin and David Price. However, Kershaw is on the 10-day injured list with forearm inflammation, and L.A. prefers to use Price out of the bullpen.

Some of the best starting pitchers reportedly available this week include Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer, Minnesota Twins right-hander Jose Berrios, Texas Rangers All-Star Kyle Gibson and Kansas City Royals left-hander Danny Duffy.

With many teams looking for upgrades, expect the trade market to heat up over the next several days.
