Red Sox manager Alex Cora tests positive for COVID-19

It's 2022, and the Boston Red Sox continue to be hit by COVID-19. This time, it's reached manager Alex Cora.

Earlier this week, the Red Sox placed multiple players on the COVID list, including starting catcher Christian Vazquez. Following their weekend series against the Rays, Boston will head to Toronto to face the Blue Jays for the first time on the road this season in a four-game set.

Cora told reporters on Sunday that the team would be without multiple unvaccinated players for their trip north of the border. Among them will be pitcher Tanner Houck — who started and went five innings on Thursday at home against Toronto.

"Starting pitcher Tanner Houck told the Boston Globe on Sunday that he is not vaccinated against COVID-19 and won't pitch during the four-game series beginning Monday, April 25. He would have been in line to start the second game," an ESPN report said. "To enter Canada, the Canadian government requires a person must have received a second COVID-19 vaccine dose -- or one dose of Johnson & Johnson -- at least 14 days prior to entry."

Per ESPN, Houck said "I'm bummed that I won't be able to make that start," referring to his upcoming missed outing against the Blue Jays.
