The Boston Red Sox have reportedly hired former MLB reliever Craig Breslow to be the head of baseball operations. Thad Levine, the current general manager of the Minnesota Twins, was reportedly in the running for the job before his name was removed from the conversation.

Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox beat reporter for MassLive.com, said Tuesday that Levine was no longer in the running, confirming the original report from Twin Daily's Jeremy Nygaard, though it remains unclear if Levine was told he's out or if he removed himself from the conversation.

KSTP's Darren Wolfson reported Tuesday "his sense" was the decision to move on was "Boston more so going in a different direction." And another report from MassLive.com says Levine "was told by Red Sox Monday night that he was no longer under consideration for front office job."

In the end, Boston is essentially going with a former Twins reliever who was the assistant GM with the Cubs over others, including Levine, who has been in the GM chair with the Twins since 2016 and worked previously as an assistant GM with the Texas Rangers

Breslow spent 12 years in the majors and pitched for seven teams, including three seasons with the Twins (2008, 2009 and 2017). He made 89 appearances out of Minnesota's bullpen and compiled a 3.75 ERA.
