Report: Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez pre-approved by MLB to buy New York Mets

New York Mets fans dreaming of an ownership committee that includes former New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez may be one step closer to that becoming a reality.

Tuesday morning, Sportico's Scott Soshnick reported that MLB pre-approved a total of seven groups interested in acquiring the Amazins. That same story claims A-Rod and J-Lo retained JPMorgan Chase & Co. to raise capital, it reiterates a previous report that billionaire entrepreneur and businessman Mike Repole could be part of the deal, and it adds that billionaire Florida Panthers owner Vinnie Viola could also join the A-Rod/J-Lo team.

One name missing is Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who recently teased his involvement with an entity potentially eyeing a Mets bid.

Joshua Harris and David Blitzer, who head Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment which has the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils and Premier League outfit Crystal Palace among its assets, may also swoop in with a bid.

As Bradford William Davis of the New York Daily News explained last week, though, there remain questions about if Mets majority owner Fred Wilpon will relinquish television sports network SNY as part of any sale.

SNY is the local cable TV home of the Mets.
